Global Responsibility
By The Most Reverend Tatsuo Miyake
Senior Chief Minister,
Konko Church of Izuo

I would like to say some greeting words on the opening of English home page of Konko Church of Izuo, as the world prepares to greet in the new millennium, I have succeeded to the position of the Senior Chief Minister.

When analyzing the state of the world following after Cold War, the key concept is the conflict between globalization and regionalism. Although rapid globalization can be observed in all areas including politics, economy, culture, telecommunication, and the environmental issue, I believe that most of the changes are simply a readaptation of Western and Christian social values which have lead to physical shows of objection, in other words, the ethnic and religious conflicts that are taking place in various areas around the world.

To avoid such crises, I believe that it is necessary to set up a global standard that is truly universal for all human societies. This is not an easy task. And the question is, is it possible for humankind to come up with a universal concept that can be accepted by all people despite differences in religion, history, traditions and lifestyles?

I firmly believe that the greatest responsibility of religionists in the third millennium will be to conscientiously work toward this end.
